CHALLENGE COURSE DESIGNS
OUR DEVOTION TO QUALITY CRAFTMANSHIP AND DESIGN IS SECOND TO NONE
Focused engineering, high quality materials, incredible designs, and first-class carpentry are at the foundation of every installation. This means you can count on Alpine Towers to produce an environment that’s built to last, simple to maintain, and designed to inspire a sense of possibility in every individual who comes in contact with your facility. Since 1989 and over 1200 facilities later, Alpine Towers is a quality choice for your trusted partner.
Alpine Towers uses several engineering firms to perform design evaluations. As necessary, engineered plans and drawings are provided to help secure building permits or a special use permit. All designs meet and/or exceed specifications established by the Association for Challenge Course Technology and the Climbing Wall Association. Our construction teams attend internal trainings every year to ensure the highest building standards and adherence to best industry practices.
We create structures with specific criteria in use, look, and function, then work to improve and refine them through feedback from facilitators that are using them every day. The result is highly successful courses that organizations have confidence in selecting.
Often times, our customers approach us with an idea of what they envision for their facility, and we work closely with them to understand programming needs, capacity and budget for creating a custom design that matches their vision. We truly appreciate this process and have the experience to deliver something truly unique as a showcase for the organizations we serve.
WE CREATE ENVIRONMENTS THAT ARE DESIGNED WITH USER SAFETY AS OUR TOP PRIORITY
Alpine Towers’ designs use a variety of systems for safeguarding participants. The Alpine Tower series was specifically created to use a dynamic belay system referred to as a “top-rope belay system”. A belay rope is tied directly to the participant’s harness. The participant remains on belay until back safely on the ground. Several other designs use this same system, including the Carolina Climbing Wall Series. Other designs use a static system, which is created by attaching a participant into an overhead safety cable via safety lanyards. As participants move horizontally through the course, they sequentially reconnect their tethers to new overhead safety cables. Modern technology allows for participants to make these transfers in a way that they cannot accidentally disconnect themselves from the safety system. Some ATI courses use a combination of both the dynamic and static system.
All designs are evaluated for effective access prevention. Items aiding unauthorized users in accessing the structures are removed and locked away at the completion of a program. No Trespassing Signs (specific to challenge courses) are placed prominently in several places on each structure. While no access prevention system can be completely foil-proof, ATI has a superb safety record for minimizing unwanted access. Mitigating unauthorized access is the role of everyone involved. ATI will help you select a site that best provides secure access.
One of the most respected lightning firms in the country designed the Alpine Tower lightning protection system, which is used on most of our outdoor designs. While no lightning system may be able to provide complete safety during a direct, unimpeded strike, we believe that our lightning systems provide significant protection for your challenge course investment.
The Alpine Tower creates the ideal setting for fostering team-building, improving communication, and developing self-esteem.
An Alpine Towers Adventure Course Complex is a combination facility which utilizes several of our unique designs to create an incredible “adventure laboratory”.

Alpine Towers Climbing Wall designs are ideal outdoor climbing structures.
When weather conditions prevent the use of an outdoor challenge course facility, many programs turn to their indoor courses.
These courses are designed and built to applicable TRADOC standards with the same level of craftsmanship for which we are known.
